Barlow Road Ride: The Marmot Road Fiasco!
The handle bars vibrated continuously. The seat poked up and down, the peddles conveyed the rough surface to the legs, the bike wobbled with the lurching steering:
it was chip seal!
just about the worst possible riding surface and it was fresh and rough on Marmot road going over Devil's Backbone!
Not just chip seal, but the first, roughest coat of chip seal with the second scheduled for after the BRR!
"The majority of the riders elected to return home by an alternative route on Sunday.."
As the director of the event noted:
"Someone in charge obviously neglected to even check on the route for the Barlow Road Ride and jumped to the wrong conclusion based upon the BRR name that the ride only is on the actual part of the Road named Barlow Rd."
Who in the world was the clueless wonder who pushed everyone aside to
protect only part of the route!
Oh, it was the notorious bullying proponent of the notorious Amphitheater-on-Miller-Rd!
Just because he said:
" The project will be delayed until after the 2013 Barlow Trail Road Ride!"
was, as usual, not true. Now that fiasco has occurred due to his involvement, he says
" I am so sorry to hear about the chip sealing"
His long history of
"big talk, no walk, you get snookered and pay" failures
was on stellar display, once again.
This time, he caught and got about 800 people to directly pay for trusting him to deliver, and then there is the entire organization and folk behind the Barlow Road Ride who are now tarnished by the failure to deliver his promises.
This joins the Festival of the Forest 2004, the Amphitheater land grab, killing off the community participation in The Villages and the projects such as the ODOT TE grant for pedestrian paths along US 26, allowing the community to input to the County on Public lands, etc. This doesn't include the person tax money grab of personally losing the professionally-created donated Town Hall signs and then demanding money to hand paint crapy ones (which also seem to have disappeared - good riddance), business cards, polo shirts, his way to the C4 committee, trying to get the County to intimidate an individual but resulting in getting the County Liaison "let go",etc.
A long sordid history of ego-centric, Dunning-Kruger effect grandstanding by someone who obvious thinks he is a brilliant clueless wonder and everyone else, except his pals in the bar, are losers.
So, the only question at this point is:
who will he try to blame for his personal screw up?
I bet he blames the County: any takers?
On the other hand, as many in the community know:
It's best to avoid standing directly between a competitive jerk and his goals
and a lot more fun watching the resulting fiasco!
They weren't totally evil,
nor were they particularly virtuous,
but their incompetence, deceit, snake oil, and intimidation
made them the Villages of the Darned
